DirtScan started out of a frustration trying to find good trails to visit.

Mountain bike trails are often shared through videos - but the "GoPro effect" means it's hard to judge the scale or difficulty of these trails from videos alone.

3D technology can help solve this, by providing true-to-scale 3D models of trails, along with local information (lines, access, direction) - we believe this could accelerate mountain bike trail discovery and tourism.

While these can be created with expensive equiment, the DirtScan project aims to keep the equipment needed as basic and low-cost as possible, to allow those all over the world to contribute.
